Roy Gorman Obituary

Roy Allen Gorman of St. James, Missouri was born August 10, 1942 in Rosati, Missouri to Eddie and Margaret (Tessaro) Gorman. He passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at the age of 81, in his home. He was married to Nancy (Swyers) on April 16, 1966. They were married 57 years. Roy spent two years in the US Army as a machine gunner in the 1st Infantry Division, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam. Roy retired from the US Post Office in Cuba, Missouri after 30 years of service. During his retirement, Roy and Nancy enjoyed traveling. He also loved to hunt, fish, garden, and put puzzles together. Roy was a lifelong member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Rosati and a member of the Knights of Columbus Rosati/St. James Council, serving as Grand Knight for several years. Roy also volunteered his time to drive the local Disabled American Veteran’s van to Columbia, Missouri for over 13 years.

Roy is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Michelle (Gorman) Oglesby and husband Marcus. Two brothers Louis Gorman with wife Irene and Ruddy Gorman with wife Darlene. Three sisters Vera Piazza, Joyce Ambrose and Sharon Marcus with husband Mike. All living in St. James area. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, brother in-laws George Piazza, Jim Ambrose, and Bill Swyers, along with step grandson Taylor Oglesby. Roy was the life of the party, always quick with a joke or something funny he read out of his latest Bathroom Reader. He also enjoyed talking about traveling, hunting, guns, knives, football, gardening, and battle-bots. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, March 1, 2024 at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Prayer service will be 5:30 PM Friday, March 1, 2024.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Rosati, Missouri with Father James Finder. Pallbearers will be Shawn Gessert, Stephen Gessert, Wayne Gorman, John Gorman, Robert Piazza, Paul Piazza, David Ambrose, and Jeremy Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Williams, Richard Lira, Bob Mounce, Harold Hughes, and Don Green. Burial will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery in Rosati, Missouri.

Memorials may be given to St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery or Honor Flight at this website. Envelopes for both memorials will be available at the funeral home, also.
