Gary Smith Obituary

Gary James Smith of Lonedell, Missouri passed away Friday, February 2, 2024 Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was 80 years of age.

Gary, the son of the late James W. and Margaret J. (Brodak) Smith, was born June 25, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri. 

He is survived by his sons, Ash Smith (Amy) of Washington, Missouri and Jason Smith (Karlie) of High Ridge, Missouri; two daughters, Sandra Smith (Matt) of St. Clair, Missouri and Jessica Johnson (Brandon) of Rolla, Missouri; four grandchildren: Isaac, Harper, Kooper, and Logan; and grandpups, Katana and Zamasu.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Tonya Marie Smith who passed away July 30, 1978 and Tracey Smith who passed away January 10, 1975.

Gary was member of the Teamsters and hauled cars for Cassen's Transport for over 30 years. He enjoyed mowing grass and gardening. He was a huge St. Louis Cardinal Fan and a car enthusiast.

He served our country in the United States Navy for 3 years and the Navy Reserves for 3 years.

Visitation will be 10:00 AM Monday, February 12, 2024 at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Monday, February 12, 2024 at Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.

Burial with Full Military Honors will be 1:30 PM Monday, February 12, 2024 at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Brandon Johnson, Matt Hinson, Jason Smith, Ash Smith, Jeremy Able, and Isaac Smith.
