Lois Ann Highfill

Lois Ann HighfillLois Ann Highfill of rural St. James, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. She was 76 years, 4 months, and 21 days of age.

Lois Ann was born on November 11, 1931 to her parents: Nicklous J. and Melba H. (Davis) Wolfe.

Lois was united in marriage to James Kenneth Highfill on June 6, 1954 at St. James, Missouri.

Lois is survived by her husband of the home: Retired Colonel James Highfill of St. James, Missouri; one son: James Nicholas Highfill of St. Paul, Missouri; one daughter: Elizabeth Ann Harvey of Kansas City, Kansas; two cousins: Jack Davis and wife Glenda of Haughton, Louisana; and Alita Holt and husband Nathan of Phoenix, Arizona; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 grandchildren-in-law and 2 step grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. Lois will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Preceding Lois in death are her parents: Nicklous J. and Melba H. (Davis) Wolfe.

Lois grew up in St. James and graduated from John F. Hodge in 1950. She met Jim in 1951 and was engaged in 1953 and married June 6, 1954 in Wood River, Mo., where Jim worked for Shell Oil and Lois worked as a bookeeper. Jim entered the Army in 1954, and Lois's title for the next 30 years were Wife, Mother, Army Wife, Organist, pianist, Piano teacher, Choir director, Red Cross volunteer, President of Officers Wives Club Church Secretary, and Sect to the Command Chaplain. Lois and Jim lived in many different states and many diffrent Countries. Lois juggled many different jobs along with being a Mother and Father for many years. In 1976 when Jim was promoted to Colonel he pinned a star on Lois recognizing that she was still in charge. After Jim's retirement in 1983, Lois attended UMR and graduated, Summa Cun Laud. With her degree in Psychology, Lois worked for Division of Family Services primarily with Foster Children. Lois recieved a number of awards, certificates of appreciation, letters of commendation and plaques.

Services
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 6 - 8 PM at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in St. James, Missouri.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the St. James United Methodist Church with Reverend Amy Turner officiating. Pallbearers will be Jason Krause, Travis Henson, James Thomas Highfill, Frank Harvey, Randall Cahill, and Gene Hemme. Honorary pallbearers will be St. James United Methodist Church Choir, Caroline Bradford and Gail Underwood. Music will be His Wonderful Look Of Love; Because He Lives; and There Within My Heart provided by Marjorie Barton. Burial will be in the family plot in the St. James Cemetery in St. James, Missouri.

Memorials are suggested to the Personal Energy Transportation (P.E.T.) St. James United Methodist Church in St. James, Missouri.

All arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
