Karl Neidert Obituary

Karl Otto Neidert was born December 9, 1957, in Austin, Texas, the second son (out of five children) of Kalo and Stella Neidert. He passed away on February 27, 2024, in San Diego, California

Karl grew up in Reno, Nevada, where he was an avid skier, rock climber, hiker, and Boy Scout, achieving the rank of Eagle. While in Reno he also spent several winters as a member of the National Ski Patrol.

After graduating from Reno High School, Karl completed his undergraduate college degree at Washington University in Saint Louis. Always an accomplished science student, Karl went on to a doctoral program in organic chemistry at the University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois, followed by a postdoctoral program in medicinal chemistry at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

During this time, Karl developed an interest in patents, leading to a law degree from Cleveland Marshall College of Law and a master's in patent law from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Karl’s professional career led him to San Diego, California, originally as counsel for a major pharmaceutical company and later in private practice as patent counsel for startup chemical and pharmaceutical companies.

Karl remained an avid outdoorsman throughout his life, successfully climbing Mt. Whitney, the highest mountain in the continental United States, several times.

Karl was a member of the La Jolla Presbyterian Church for over 20 years. He loved feeding people and was often found in the church kitchen, cooking for the congregation. He was an active member of its Monday Men’s Fellowship, where he presided over the kitchen on a weekly basis. He also participated in church mission programs in Mexico and regularly gave blood during church blood drives – having given over 40 pints of blood just through the church’s blood drives and many more as a member of the San Diego community.

Karl never married and is survived by his brothers, Edward, David, and Wayne, and his sister, Meg.

Karl Neidert will lie in state Friday, April 5th, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the High Gate Baptist Church in High Gate.
